Field Trip - Blackfoot Crossing (Calgary, AB)

Upcoming & Annual Events

Visit Blackfoot Crossing Historical Park!

Blackfoot Crossing is a designated National Heritage Site where Treaty 7 was signed between the Blackfoot Nations and the Government of Canada. The site itself is of historic and archeological importance. The impressive building houses a museum, interactive exhibits, and a gift shop, meeting rooms, and displays. Outside, you can visit the Tipi Village, see Poundmaker's Monument and Chief Crowfoot's grave site, and view various archeological sights.

This spring, we have learned about "The Clearing of the Plains" and how First Nations peoples were forced out of their traditional territories and onto reserves. We have seen a film about modern First Nations history and the Constitution Train which went from Vancouver to Ottawa and forced the inclusion of First Nations in the constitution. We also have the opportunity to see a film about Pete Standing Alone, a local First Nations Elder and community builder. Now we can start to learn about the Blackfoot Nations on whose traditional territories we live - their culture, values, history, languages - their stories from their perspective. Let's take the next step!
